WELCOME TO FAIRVIEW UMC
Fairview UMC, located in New Windsor, Maryland, is a historically Black church with longstanding ties to the Taylorsville community. Established in 1851, it holds the distinction of being the first Black Methodist congregation in Carroll County (Maryland Department of Housing, n.d.). The original church, a log structure, was built on land acquired from a white man named Shoemaker, with its cornerstone laid on February 2, 1851. This log building served the nearby community of Newport, which was home to approximately twenty-nine Black families in the 19th century. At the time, log buildings were commonly used for churches in Carroll County, though few have survived. The continued existence of this structure adds to its historical significance.
